Everyone experiences stress & anxiety at one time or another.
Stress and anxiety are a natural part of the fight or flight response and the body’s reaction to danger. The purpose of this response is to ensure a person is alert, focused, and ready to deal with a threat.
The difference between STRESS & ANXIETY is:
Stress is a response to a challenge- or a perceived threat.
Anxiety is a reaction to the stress or the cause of stress.
Anxiety is a specific response to stress- it is internal.
Anxiety is typically characterized by a “persistent feeling of dread or apprehension” in situations that are not typically threatening.
Stress tends to be short term and in response to a recognized threat.
Anxiety can linger and can sometimes seem as if nothing is triggering it.
Both mild stress and mild anxiety can be addressed by using coping skills.
Stress and anxiety are perfectly normal human reactions to threatening or worrying situations. They are part of the fight or flight response that keeps us safe by preparing the body to deal with danger.
Stress and anxiety can be managed with relaxation techniques, such as breathing exercises, physical activity, and talking about their worries.
